Most films and even daily soaps feature Karva Chauth as an important ritual and tradition. It comes as surprise because of marriage, as an institution has huge prominence in India. This year, Karva Chauth happens to be on 27th October 2018. 

Karva Chauth is incomplete without Sargi. In fact, Sargi is synonymous with this festival as it highlights the deep-rooted love and respect in the Indian families. Sargi is a pre-dawn meal provided by the mother-in-law to her daughter-in-law before Karva Chauth.

Karva Chauth Sargi comprises of sweet and salty snacks such as Matthi, mithai, dry fruits and some gifts. Baya is followed by Sargi. Like Sargi is a gift from the mother-in-law, the Baya is sent by the girl’s mother. These gifts mark the importance of this occasion as the girl fasts for the life longevity of her husband.

Indians abroad celebrate and rejoice the festival in their own way Ranjeet Singh Ahluwalia has come up with a photo feature of the celebrations organised in NewZealand by Rainbow Ladies Club.
