Chandigarh Police in association with HCIFL will train police personals against cyber crimes

Today on 15.03.2019, Chandigarh Police organized an awareness event with the help of Home Credit India Finance Pvt. Ltd.  at Recruitment Training Centre, Police Lines Sector-26 for the awareness of police force regarding financial and cyber frauds and help in investigation of financial and Cyber frauds. The event was organized in the presence of W/SSP Nilambari Jagadale and SP/Hqrs, SP/Operations, DSP-Cybercrimes, SDPO-Central and SDPO-South were also present along with Sh. Manish Kaushik, Security Head of Home Credit India. In this awareness event more than 150 police officials of every rank from different units of Chandigarh Police attended this event.

During the day long event, officials of Home Credit India conducts knowledge sharing sessions with Police officials across different levels on challenges, issues and measures relating to prevention of cyber crime, cyber bullying, online and financial frauds. These sessions highlight current trends through case studies and reference materials. During sessions, many topics like rising incidents of cyber stalking, web jacking, juice jacking, theft of online data, ATM frauds, phishing frauds etc. were discussed. The aim of event is assisting the police force in reducing/investigating cyber crime and financial frauds in the city, so that Chandigarh Police can provide the citizens a safe and friendly platform with technology for online banking to protect them from financial frauds and cyber crimes. The Chandigarh Police, Cyber Cell in assistance with Home Credit will train Police officials of all Police Stations in the city regarding financial frauds to enable Police Stations to deal with basic complaints of Cyber Crime. For general awareness regarding Cyber frauds, Do & Don’ts are as under:-

  • A strong password shall make your venturing into cyber space safer.
  • To stay away and not accept invites, as well as friend requests from unknown persons.
  • Do not give/share your password with friends.
  • Don’t give common password for all social networking accounts and don’t expose your passwords to un-trusted sites
  • Change your current PIN from time to time to make it more difficult for fraudsters to guess.
  • Never write down your personal identification number  (PIN), especially on the back of your card. Memorize it.
  • Don’t lend or hand over your cards to anyone. The innocent looking bartender/petrol pump attendant/ restaurant waiter could be carrying a skimmer to skim your card. Report lost or stolen credit cards immediately to bank that issued you the card by calling the call center
  • If you receive an email/phone calls asking for your credit/debit/ATM card details. Never respond to such emails/phone calls; even if they seem to official emails from your bank. Your bank will never ask you for confidential information via emails, calls or texts. If you do receive any such communication, report it to your bank.
  • Don’t reply to the received SMS/MMS from strangers as it could be a Smshing/Vishing attack.
  • Don’t share your internet as Hot spot to other/strangers.
  • Don’t always keep turn on your location
  • Don’t give your mobile numbers where chatting on internet to avoid “STALKING”
  • Don’t handover your mobile phone to unauthorized service centre, to avoid “CLONING/MISUSE”
  • MMS/SMS/links received should be checked before opening the message as there could be hidden attachments for fraud and remote access of your device.
  • It is best to refrain form clicking on the pop-ups and unknown websites links.
  • The mails which make claims about winning a prize money are malicious and must be ignored
  • Verify about the company/organization when you applying for a job/VISA/ work permit online. Don’t deposit money in hurry.
  • No IRDA agent can call/ discuss over phone for your Insurance policy or investment.
  • Be vigilant when purchase any product from OLX/Quickr and do not deposit money in hurry.
  • Avoid public charging points to charge your mobile phones as the data of your mobile phone can be fetch through data cables by fraudsters.

नेताओं का भाजपा में खिंचाव कब तक?

चुनावों से पहले बदलते राजनैतिक समीकरण, बयार किस ओर बह रही है का इशारा माने जाते हैं। मोदी को चोर, डरपोक हत्यारा और भी न जाने क्या क्या कहने वाले इन हवाओं के रुख को नहीं समझ पा रहे।

नई दिल्ली: लोकसभा चुनाव से पहले कई दलों में हलचल बढ़ गई है. बीजेपी में आज तीन बड़े नेता शामिल हुए हैं. तीनों नेता अलग-अलग दलों के हैं. ये तीन दल तृणमूल कांग्रेस, कांग्रेस और बीजू जनता दल हैं. सूत्रों के मुताबिक, आने वाले दिनों में उत्तर प्रदेश के सपा-बसपा के कई नेता बीजेपी के पाले में जा सकते हैं.  

चार बार के तृणमूल विधायक अर्जुन सिंह बीजेपी में शामिल
पश्चिम बंगाल की भाटापारा सीट से तृणमूल कांग्रेस विधायक अर्जुन सिंह बृहस्पतिवार को भाजपा में शामिल हो गए. चार बार के विधायक सिंह के भाजपा में शामिल होने से पार्टी को आम चुनावों में पश्चिम बंगाल में काफी लाभ मिलने की संभावना है. भाटपारा से तृणमूल कांग्रेस विधायक अर्जुन सिंह भाजपा मुख्यालय में पार्टी के पश्चिम बंगाल प्रभारी कैलाश विजयवर्गीय और वरिष्ठ नेता मुकुल रॉय की उपस्थिति में भाजपा में शामिल हुए. हालांकि तृणमूल कांग्रेस ने सिंह के भाजपा में शामिल होने को कुछ खास महत्व नहीं दिया और उन्हें अपनी सीट से भाजपा के टिकट पर चुनाव लड़ने की चुनौती दी. गौरतलब है कि तृणमूल कांग्रेस से निष्कासित सांसद अनुपम हाजरा तथा कुछ और नेता कुछ ही दिन पहले भारतीय जनता पार्टी (भाजपा) में शामिल हो गए थे. इससे पहले तृणमूल कांग्रेस के सांसद सौमित्र खान भी भाजपा में शामिल हुए थे.

सोनिया गांधी के करीबी नेता ने थामा बीजेपी का दामन
कांग्रेस के केंद्रीय नेतृत्व को गुरुवार को बड़ा झटका लगा. कांग्रेस के वरिष्ठ नेता टॉम वडक्कन बीजेपी में शामिल हो गए. टॉम वडक्कन केरल के त्रिशूर जिले से आते हैं. वडक्कन पूर्व कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी के निजी सहायक रहे हैं. राहुल गांधी के पार्टी अध्यक्ष बनने के बाद भी वह उनके करीबी माने जाते हैं. बीजेपी में शामिल होने के बाद टॉम वडक्कन ने कहा, ‘मैंने 20 साल कांग्रेस को दिए. कांग्रेस में वंशवाद की राजनीति हावी है. पुलवामा हमले के बाद कांग्रेस के रुख से मैं काफी दुखी हूं. कांग्रेस पुलवामा हमले पर राजनीति कर रही है. मैं भारी मन से कांग्रेस को छोड़ रहा हूं.पाकिस्तानी आतंकियों का हमारी जमीन पर हमला और आप उस पर राजनीति करते हैं.’

बीजेडी के पूर्व नेता दामोदर राउत बीजेपी में 
बीजेडी के पूर्व नेता व विधायक दामोदर राउत ने बीजेपी का दामन थाम लिया है. राउत ने केंद्रीय मंत्री धर्मेंद्र प्रधान और ओडिशा के बीजेपी प्रभारी अर्जुन सिंह की उपस्थिति में बीजेपी ज्वॉइन की. बीजेपी में शामिल होने के बाद राउत ने कहा, “आखिरकार, बहुत ज्यादा सोच-विचार करने के बाद मैंने आज बीजेपी में शामिल होने का फैसला किया है. मैंने 45 साल राजनीति में गुजारे हैं. बीजेडी बीजू बाबू की विचारधारा को भुला चुकी है. राज्य में भ्रष्टाचार बढ़ा है. ओडिशा के मुख्यमंत्री नवीन पटनायक पर निशाना साधते हुए राउत ने कहा, “उनके मन में ओडिशा के लोगों के प्रति कोई प्यार नहीं है. ओडिशा में कई साल गुजारने के बाद भी वह उड़िया भाषा को नहीं बोल सकते.”  

लोकसभा चुनाव के खर्च पर अधिकारियों की टीम की रहेगी नजर-उपायुक्तपंचकूला,

उपायुक्त एवं जिला निर्वाचन अधिकारी डाॅ0 बलकार सिंह ने कहा कि भारत निर्वाचन आयोग के निर्देशानुसार लोकसभा चुनाव में उम्मीदवारों द्वारा किये जाने वाले खर्च पर नजर रखी जायेगी। उन्होंने कहा कि दोनों विधानसभा क्षेत्रों 01 कालका व 02 पंचकूला के लिये अलग-अलग सहायक खर्च पर्यवेक्षक तैनात कर दिये गये है। इसके अलावा प्रत्याशियों द्वारा की जाने वाली चुनावी सभाओं, प्रचार के लिये इस्तेमाल किये जाने वाले वाहनों पर नजर रखने के लिये भी वीडियो सर्विलांस, वीडियो वीविंग तथा लेखा टीमें गठित की गई है।

डाॅ0 बलकार सिंह ने बताया कि कालका विधानसभा क्षेत्र के लिये आबकारी एवं कराधान अधिकारी राकेश बतरा और पंचकूला विधानसभा क्षेत्र के लिये आबकारी एवं कराधान अधिकारी रविंद्र कुमार को सहायक खर्च पर्यवेक्षक नियुक्त किया गया है। इन दोनों की टीमों में दो-दो कर निरीक्षक भी शामिल किये गये है। उन्होंने बताया कि चुनावी सभाओं की वीडियोग्राफी के लिये कालका विधानसभा क्षेत्र में जनस्वास्थ्य विभाग जेई विनोद कुमार, पंचायतीराज विभाग के जेई हरविंद्र सिंह और नरेंद्र की वीडियो सर्विलंेस टीम तैनात रहेगी। इसी प्रकार पंचकूला विधानसभा क्षेत्र के लिये लोकनिर्माण विभाग के एस0डी0ई0 कर्ण सिंह, इसी विभाग के जेई विनय सांगवान व करमबीर को वीडियो सर्विलेंस टीम में शामिल किया गया है। 

उन्होंने बताया कि चुनावी सभाओं की वीडियोग्राफी के आधार पर खर्च की गणना करने के लिये वीडियों वीविंग टीम बनाई गई है। उन्होंने बताया कि कालका विधानसभा क्षेत्र के लिये राजकीय विद्यालय पिंजौर के प्रिंसीपल पवन गुप्ता, राजकीय विद्यालय कालका के प्रिंसीपल नवरत्न तथा राजकीय महाविद्यालय कालका के सहायक प्राध्यापक जसपाल तूड़ को वीडियो वीविंग टीम में शामिल किया गया है। उन्होंने बताया कि पंचकूला विधानसभा क्षेत्र के लिये गठित वीडियो वीविंग टीम में राजकीय विद्यालय सेक्टर-7 कि पिं्रसीपल सतीश कुमार, सेक्टर-6 राजकीय विद्यालय के लेक्चरर सुभाष शर्मा व मनदीप सिंह शामिल किये गये है। 

लेखा टीमों में कालका विधानसभा क्षेत्र के लिये लेखाधिकारी श्रीमती नीलम सोहल, सैक्शन आॅफिसर कमलदीप और वजीर सिंह को शामिल किया गया है। इसी प्रकार पंचकूला विधान सभा क्षेत्र के लिये गठित लेखा टीम में लेखाधिकारी राजेश कुमार, सैक्शन आॅफिसर मुकेश यादव और विकास कौशिक शामिल किये गये है। 

Hypertension management together with trans-fat elimination – A route to reducing the burden of cardiovascular disease

40% adults in Punjab are at risk of heart disease and stroke : Study

Chandigarh, “Deaths due to cardiovascular diseases like heart attack and stroke are on the rise across the country but more so in Punjab. Hypertension is the most important preventable cause for developing cardiovascular diseases. In a clarion call for urgent action and widespread awareness among people to reign in this silent epidemic”, suggest Disha Foundation and Generation Saviour Association during the findings at media dialogue with health experts, policymakers and journalists in Chandigarh.

In the meeting Dr GB Singh, Assistant Director, in charge NCD, Health Services, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Punjab, talked about the steps that the Government is working on to screen people above 30 years of age for high blood pressure and ensuring that treatment is available to all. “ASHAs and ANMs have been trained to screen people with high blood pressure and to ensure that they register for treatment. The Government is making blood pressure medicines available up to sub centre level. Patients should continue taking medication lifelong to keep their blood pressure under control.”

Two in five adults are hypertensive in Punjab. And almost equal number are in prehypertensive stage who are at risk to develop hypertension. Moreover, intake of trans-fatty acids can increase the risk of death due to heart attack by 28%. As the highest consumer of Vanaspati, Punjab must take immediate steps to limit its consumption by regulating trans fat in oils and foods through stringent policy enforcement.

Motivating people of Punjab to make diet changes will require urgent action in reducing industrially produced trans fats in foods containing partially hydrogenated vegetable oils (PHVOs).

Echoing the sentiment, Dr Eram Rao, Associate Professor, Delhi University said, “Replacing trans fats by healthier fats is possible. Many countries across the world have become trans fats free.  Technologies such as full hydrogenation and interesterification can produce almost fats with minimal trans fats. There is little efforts required by food businesses or public.”

‘मणी लेखक कैसे बनी’ का विमोचन

      डिपार्टमैंट ऑफ़ इवनिंग स्ट्डीज़ – बहु अनुशासनीय खोज केंद्र, पंजाब यूनीवर्सिटी, चण्डीगढ़ के हिन्दी-विभाग की ओर से आज इवनिंग स्ट्डीज़ के ऑडीटोरियम में पी. भानू द्वारा लिखित उपन्यास ‘मणी लेखक कैसे बनी’ का विमोचन एवं उपन्यास के सृजनात्मक पहलुओ पर समीक्षकों एवं विचारकों ने विचार-चर्चा की। मुख्य मेहमान श्री माधव कौशिक जी की ओर से उपन्यास की सराहना की गई। प्रो. जसविंदर सिंह ने उपन्यास के विषय-वस्तु एवं वृत्तांत की विशालता को नवीन संकल्पों के साथ जोड़ कर उपन्यास के विधागत रूप के विषय में मूल्यवान विचार पेश किए। प्रो. मुकेश अरोड़ा ने उपन्यास के विभिन्न पक्षों पर प्रकाश डाला। डॉ. नीरज जैन ने अपने विचार पेश करते हुए प्रवासी लेखक एवं लेखिकाओं के द्वंद्व एवं त्रासदिक विषयों की बात की। डॉ. पंधेर ने कहा कि यह सम्पूर्ण उपन्यास सामंतवादी, पितृसत्तात्मक वृत्तियों के विरुद्ध संघर्ष, सफलता-असफलता, मूलदेश एवं प्रवास के अनुभवों, अतीत एवं वर्तमान के आन्तरिक मेल-सुमेल और क्रांतिकारी विचारधारात्मक प्रतिबद्धता को सुचारू बनाए रखने हेतु मणी के लेखक बनने की अर्थपूर्ण कहानी है। डॉ. धनवंत कौर ने कहा कि यह रचना उपन्यास-संसार की जटिलता को बड़ी ही साधारणता एवं सहजता से चुनौती देती है। साहित्य लेखन में इच्छुक विद्यार्थियों को इसका अध्ययन अवश्य करना चाहिए। डॉ. सुखदेव सिंह मिन्हास ने लेखिका को बधाई देते हुए साहित्य के सार्वभौमिक होने की बात कही। उन्होंने कहा कि साहित्य को खांचों में बाँटना उचित नहीं है। डा. परमजीत ने कहा कि विधागत एवं कथानक रूप में यह एक नवीन रचना है। डॉ. गुरमीत सिंह ने कहा कि यह उपन्यास मुझे इंग्लिश-विंग्लिश फिल्म की याद दिलाता है। अंत में विभागाध्यक्ष प्रो. गुरपाल सिंह संधू ने विचार-विमर्श के लिए आए विशेषज्ञों एवं विद्यार्थियो/शोधार्थियों का धन्यवाद किया।

HEALTH AWARENESS & CHECK-UP CAMP AT BOYS HOSTEL NO. 4

Chandigarh March 14, 2019

            Health Awareness & Check-Up Camp was organized at Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel Hall, Boy’s Hostel No. 4, Panjab University, Chandigarh for Mess and Canteen workers. Health checkup of the mess and canteen workers was conducted by Medical Officers Dr. Atul Bhardwaj and Dr. Ramesh Rattu.

            The concept of Health Awareness & Check-Up Camp was initiated last year, at Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel Hall, Boy’s Hostel No. 4, in association with Centre for Public Health. The Camp included the thirty minutes health talk regarding Musculoskeletal disorder, Physical Activity, and Environmental Consciousness by the Dr. Meenakshi, Rajinder Kaur and Anish Patyal. Besides, the camp also focused on the issue of personal hygiene, cleanliness, handwashing technique followed by the health check-up camp of the Mess and Canteen workers.

            The camp was inaugurated by Professor Emaual Nahar Dean Student Welfare. Professor Nahar while addressing the mess and canteen workers highlighted the need to keep the kitchen and residential area neat and clean. Prof. Nahar further highlighted that health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well being. For a healthy life cycle, a person needs to have a balanced diet and has to regularly exercise. One must also live in a proper shelter, take enough sleep and have good hygiene habits.

            The Coordinator of the Camp, Dr. Manoj Sharma apprised that this is the second consecutive year where such health camp has been organized at the Panjab University hostel. He apprised the health of workers is very important and we are committed to provide best facilities in the interest of student welfare and that around thirty workers are benefitted by this camp today.

            Health camp also covered the concept of oral hygiene. It covered wide dimensions including how to wash vegetables, how to cut vegetables, how to cook under hygienic conditions. Among those present included Dr. Manoj Kumar, Warden Dr. Dinesh Kumar and team of experts from Centre for Public Health and other hostel residents and volunteers.

“Inclusion: Making it Happen

            On the fourth day of the workshop on “Inclusion: Making it Happen”, Padma shri Prof. Krishna Kumar, former Director of NCERT and Honorary Professor Department of Education, Panjab University, Chandigarh, delivered a talk on ‘Understanding Inclusion’, which was chaired by Prof. Nandita Shukla Singh, Dean International Students, Panjab University, Chandigarh.

            He said that “Inclusion” is a new word but the concept is an old one. Our constitution is an example where, without the mention of the word “inclusion” the idea of inclusion finds expression, for example ‘Equality and Justice’. Also, child-centred pedagogy is inclusive in nature. But despite this, our system has exclusionary character- A system which has a tendency to drop many children on the way. He explained such exclusion with help of ‘social Darwinism’. He stressed that in order to effectively implement inclusion we must break down the nexus of exclusionary categories- be it gender, caste, class, religion, language or any other. He further mentioned that our system follows social Darwinism.

            Prof. J.S. Saini, former Head, National Institute  of Technical  Teachers Training & Research conducted a session on assistive technology for persons with hearing and visual impairment. He shared his livid experiences and challenges he faced for his younger son who was born deaf. His narration sent out the message that one has to fight out the system to do the needful for the PWDs.

            Prof. Priti Arun, Joint Director, Govt. Rehabilitation Institute for Intellectual Disabilities, Sector 31, Chandigarh chaired the session.

            Dr. Wasim Ahmed, Assistant Professor from Govt. Rehabilitation Institute for Intellectual Disabilities, Chandigarh and Dr. Monica Chhabra, senior physiotherapist from PGIMER, Chandigarh made their presentations on Assistive technology for persons with ID and on loco- motor impair respectively.

            Ms. Ruchika Sachdev, Principal, Primary wing, Mount Litera School International, Mumbai discussed the structure of lesson plan. Prof. Vandana Mehra, Department of Education, Panjab University, Chandigarh chaired the session.

              As part of the Chandigarh Science Congress (CHASCON-2019), Section events were carried out at various Science Departments, here today

Section-Life Sciences

Zoology, Anthropology, Institute of Forensic Science and Criminology

            The event which was held in the Department of Zoology, PU started with the quiz competition and the best team was sent for the central participation. 15 oral and 55 poster presentations were made by the participants from various institutions all over the tricity.

            The invited talk “Building resilience in young adults” was delivered by Professor Prabhjot Malhi, Professor in child psychology at Department of Pediatrics, PGIMER, Chandigarh. She discussed cases of attention deficient hyperactive disorder (ADHD) and emphasized on overindulgence and tiger parenting on part of parents were harmful in child development but at the same time parent interaction and involvement with the child were very important. She described many cases of young children suffering from the mental health issues due addiction to pornography. According to her view, vulgar and women objectified music, early exposure to sexual content are mainly responsible for such addiction in young children.

            For building resilience young adult she emphasized encouraging them to adopt hobbies take up physical exercise, do community work and have patience to achieve goals. She also highlighted teaching them importance of failure, building relationships, friendships and respecting others needs. She conclude her session with the message “All young people need role models, not critics”. Her talk was highly applauded by all present.

Section: The Earth and Environmental Science

Department of Geography, Dean International Students and the Department of Geology

            Lecture by Dr. Asher Minns, Executive Director, University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK on “Science of Climate Change Communication and Climate Change Trends” organized by Department of Geography, Dean International Students and the Department of Geology.       The sectional presentations included presentations from various branches such as Palaeontology, Environment Science and Structural and Engineering Geology and Hydrology. 

            A quiz was held in the afternoon that was attended by all the participating students and the Research Scholars of the three departments. Four teams participated in the competition.  This was followed by a Poster Session where several students and Research Scholars presented their latest research work.  These oral presentations were judged by highly qualified faculty from Geography and Environment Science Departments.  

Section:           Engineering and Management Sciences

                        The event at University Institute of Engineering & Technology(UIET), witnessed wide participation in which researchers from all over India participated. Some of the reputed institutes that participated are DIHAR-DRDO, Anna University, CSIO-CSIR, CCET, GGDSD College as well as Panjab University.

                        A total of 57 research papers on engineering, management, fashion technology, biotechnology were selected for oral and poster presentation after a rigorous review process.

                        The plenary lecture was given by Prof Sunil K. Singh from CCET on the topic “Computing Reality”. The other judges were Prof. Rama Krishna Challa, NITTTR, Prof. Seema Kapoor, Dr. SSBUICET, Dr. Monika Aggarwal, UIAMS and Dr. Ajay Mittal, UIET.

                        The event was conducted under the leadership of Prof. Savita Gupta, Section President and Director, UIET.

Section:           Mathematical Sciences

Department of Mathematics

                        The session started with the expert talk by Dr. Subash Chandra Martha, Associate Professor, Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar. The title of his talk was “Modelling on Wave Structure Interaction and Application”.  He discussed about the mathematical model of the interaction of surface waves with a fixed obstacle which has wide applications in the fields of engineering. .

                        The delegates presented their research work through oral and poster presentations. There were total 68 registered delegates from Mathematics, Statistics and Computer science from various parts of the region who participated in CHASCON-2019 under Mathematical sciences section on 14th March 2019. There were 22 oral presentations and 03 poster presentations. 

                        Among oral presentations, three best oral presentations were selected from respective departments and one best poster was selected among all posters.

                        The Department witnessed highest number of participation. The sectional President Prof. Maninder Karan and sectional secretary Dr. Jai Malik briefed, that there were more than 200 registered participants from several states including Himachal Pradesh (25), Punjab (20), Haryana (10), Uttar Pradesh (5), Uttrakhand (10) and Chandigarh.

                        Apart from 90 poster and 12 oral presentations, sectional quiz was also organized by Dr. Vandita Kakkar, Dr. Amita and Dr. Ashok Yadav. Out of 16 participating teams 2 top team comprising of  Yashita and Udaibir as 1st and  Dhruvi and Jitender as 2nd were also felicitated by Prof. Kanwaljit Chopra, Chairperson, UIPS.

                        The program also included poster session conducted by Dr. Anurag Kuhad and Dr. Ashwani Kumar. There were 90 posters presented by research scholars, post-graduates and under-graduate students highlighting their research.

                        Similarly technical and oral sessions conducted by Dr. Neelima and Dr. Sangeeta, consisted of 2 invited talks and  12 oral presentations. Prof. Parikshit Bansal , Ex-Head IPR Cell , NIPER, Mohali who is also an inventor, thought leader and IP educator delivered talk on “New career Opportunities for students in Pharmaceutical Sciences in area of patents”. Dr. Neeraj Mehta, a UIPS alumnus from Wiley Sciences apprised the delegates and students about new emerging career opportunities in Pharma profession.
