Administrator addressed key issues like Surge in Onion prices, Law and Order Situation, Conversion of Government Press Building into Vintage Car Museum

Korel, Chandigarh, 4th December 2019:

A meeting was held in UT Secretariat today under the Chairmanship of Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator UT Chandigarh in the presence of Sh. Arun Goel, IAS, Secretary Culture, Government of India, Sh. Vikas Partap, IAS, Secretary Culture, Government of Punjab and other UT officers were present.

The details regarding future utilisation of Press Building and Kalagram lawns were discussed.  A presentation was made on the concept of Vintage Car Museum and Corbusier designed Furniture Museum.

The Administrator also reviewed the law and order issues and stressed on disposal of cases pending for the last several years in various police stations.  The DGP Chandigarh also mentioned about decreasing crime rate.  He also mentioned that the newly launched toll free No.112 was running successfully.  Recently, a trial was done by media persons and it was found working satisfactorily.  A notification regarding traffic violation compounding fee was also finalized.  The recommendations of Municipal Corporation for levying 10 paise per unit as electricity cess was formally approved.

In addition to this the Administrator also addressed the issue of surge in the price of onions in U.T. Chandigarh and to provide relief to the public.  To provide good quality onions at reasonable prices, the department of Food & Supplies and Consumer Affairs & Legal Metrology, U.T., Chandigarh has taken up this matter with the Department of Consumer Affairs, Govt. of India to direct the National Agricultural Co-operative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) to make available good quality onions at the earliest which would cost around Rs.60-65/- per kg.

This would be sold by the department at its stalls across the city.  The Administrator has also directed the department of Food & Supplies and Consumer Affairs & Legal Metrology to conduct regular checks to ensure that no hoarding or malpractices in the sale of onions is being done in the city and strict action be taken against those found indulged in malpractices.

Discussion on dyslexia at PU

The third day of 21days’ National Program on Assessment and Management of Children with Learning Disabilities from 2nd to 22nd December 2019, organised by Centre for Academic Leadership and Education Management (CALEM), Department of Education, Panjab University, Chandigarh was initiated by Prof Raj K. Gupta (Program Coordinator).

In the first technical session, Ms.ApoorvaPanshikar from SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai informed the participants about meaning, signs and symptoms of Dyslexia. She explained about the areas of assessment in the second session. She stressed that parents often find it hard to accept that there is a real problem and hence most of the times they misinterpret the situation. In the subsequent session, she threw light on the varied tools use to diagnose children with dyslexia.

Chandigarh Police arrested Surinder Kumar R/o Village Dawah, Distt. Kullu, HP, near Pal Farm, Kishangarh, Chandigarh and recovered 250 gram charas from his possession on 03.12.2019. A case FIR No. 255, U/S 20 NDPS Act has been registered in PS-IT park, Chandigarh. Investigation of the case is in progress.

Two person arrested for consuming liquor at public places

       Two cases U/S 68-1(B) Punjab Police Act 2007 & 510 IPC has been registered in PS-IT park and PS 49, Chandigarh against two persons who were arrested while consuming liquor at public places on 03.12.2019. Later they were released on bail.

Accident

A case FIR No. 143, U/S 279, 337 IPC has been registered in PS-19, Chandigarh on the statement of Anuj Kumar R/o # 3348, Sector -21/D, Chandigarh against Priyam r/o # 1096, Sector 21, Chandigarh driver of Jetta car No. CH01BP-1673, who hit to Wagonr car No. Ch01AK1013 and two other car No. PB12AF-2960 and CH01BX-7093, which were parked near # 3348, Sector 21, Chandigarh on the night intervening 01/02.12.2019. Investigation of the case is in progress.

Missing/Abduction

A person resident of Chandigarh reported that unknown person who abducted/missing his daughter aged about 17 years from his residence on 02.12.2019. A case FIR No. 236, U/S 363 IPC has been registered in PS-11, Chandigarh. Investigation of the case is in progress.

Theft

          Gurbir Singh Dhillon R/o # 2122, Sector -15-C, Chandigarh reported that unknown person on motorcycle number not known, who stolen away complainant cash Rs. 273000/- from his car No. CH01AV7761 from near south end chowk on 03.12.2019. A case FIR No. 247, U/S 379, 34 IPC has been registered in PS-36, Chandigarh. Investigation of the case is in progress.

MV Theft

          Ankit R/o # 8/A, Harmilap Nagar, Baltana, PB, reported that unknown person who stole away complainants. Activa No. Pb65Z-2864 near SD College Sector 32, Chandigarh. A case FIR No. 299, U/S 379 IPC has been registered in PS-34, Chandigarh. Investigation of the case is in progress.
